Sustainable development project

The "Sustainable development is currently running with a class of seconde (grade 9-10).

The students team up and will play as architects developing a sustainable district.

The first part of the sequence allows them to work in full autonomy. Each group has three exercises to do which allow the students to handle key concepts such as the ecological footprint, the main aspects of sustainability, and to finish they can fill up a chart to establish the logical connections between these notions. Students were allowed to handle the exercises in the order they wanted, as full groups, smaller groups, in pairs or individually. A collective class discussions concluded the sequence.

 

The second part of the sequence is based on the same principle, but with more complicated concepts and exercises. Students have to fill up online questionnaires on two video documentaries, and one article.

The third part allows students to work as autonomous groups. A team building and modeling exercise using Lego as a building tool is the center piece for this exercise. Students team discover the notions of team building and organization while modeling their dream school.
