City Hall Scuttle

City Hall Scuttle is a game that was co-created with Ms Loubet Del Bayle, a colleague from lycée Richelieu, another school in the same town. It was played for the first time the 16th of December 2016.

She expressed an interest in trying out roleplaying games in her class, so we met to that purpose. She visited some of my classes and ended up developing the game together.

"City Hall Scuttle"  illustrated the programme subject "London a global City". Students are teamed up in groups of characters who meet to discuss the urban planing of London. The discussion sets up groups of architects who want to build a new skyscraper, and local associations who want to defend the project, in front of a group of representatives from the City Hall.

Before the game, each students receive a complete file with his or her character, and a short documentation about the issues they will have to handle, and the arguments they'll have to defend. While each group presents their case, the rest of the students can discuss freely among them in the rest of the area.

This game encourages team work, trains students to think about urban planning globally, and develops their oral and writing skills (they are tasked with writing a feedback after the game). The firt run was a success, though students complained that they felt they lacked time to present all their arguments and wished the game had run for a longer time.

The cooperation between teachers was also a great highlight in the creation of this game.
